The Goal and the Project - Bed and Breakfast with a Bakery and a Brewery

So to start off this blog, I figured I'd share my goal for the end of this cake project. As I mentioned before I'm a cake decorator with a degree in Interior Design. I've been combining my two passions for a long time, since I believe any design related experience enhances all other areas of the field. I've also spent time in floral design and think all three mediums have enhanced my eye for color, texture, and balance. Not to mention my experience in catering, so I'd probably be the best wedding planner ever!

But to get back topic. I've dreamed of owning my own bakery for a long time. The light has dwindled a bit, working in the food industry under someone else and observing the not so dreamy reality of being a business owner. I've also gotten engaged recently and upon viewing wedding venues all over the place, I've also had the idea that it would be great to open up a bed and breakfast and I think both could go hand in hand. We've joked for a long time that I could have a bakery and my fiance could have a brewery and that would be a lot of fun. Well, if we had a bed and breakfast with a bakery, why not add in the brewery? And then we could even host weddings on the property and we could provide everything. That would be the perfect little scenario!

We've had our eyes on a place for a while now and recently found out it was for sale. It has so much "character" as my parents would say, which I've always thought of as meaning really old and in need of some serious TLC. This property is exactly that. I can imagine it with a breathtaking facelift, but in the end, that requires some serious dough! And not the kind that I have experience making!

We've started brainstorming all of the ways we can make this work. Since the property is two buildings and we really only want to renovate one of them for B&B purposes, we thought we could move back in with my parents and rent out the second building to help cover the mortgage. But then the question is what do we do for our regular income since we'd have to leave our current jobs. This whole project has inspired the bakery dream again and it's exciting, even if we don't know the possibility of this really becoming a reality.

So check back to see our progress and in the meantime you can check out my cake photos and any other information I find to share!
